This extra virgin olive oil comes from the Jaen region. The name comes from the castle of the Canena family. Castillo de Canena goes back to a long tradition of olive oil production since 1780.
The olive groves are located in the Valle del Alto Guadalquivir, between the Sierras Cazorla and Mágina. On this land there are the family's olive trees, which represent a beautiful piece of land on which the Canena family harvests the olives with which they produce the high quality extra virgin olive oil of the classic varieties Picual, Arbequina and Royal.
Colour: The intense green colour of this olive oil corresponds to the fruity green of the olive.
Nose: Complex, the aroma of freshly cut grass and aromatic plants such as basil, thyme or mint defuse and relativise with elegance and delicacy the notes of tomato, spike and fresh fruit such as green apple or banana peel.
Palate: On the palate it has an enormous expressive potency. It corresponds to the olfactory notes, it shows a perfect balance between bitter and hot. An olive oil that is definitely complex, harmonious and persistent.
Use: Particularly suitable for salads, tomato soup, gazpacho, ham and cheese and grilled meats.
Very aromatic and concentrated, full of character, with a fine taste, typical of the variety, and very harmonious.
Castillo de Canena is a family business of the Vanos family, which has been producing high-quality olive oils for 250 years. The estate is located in Andalusia, not far from Jaen and is surrounded by its own olive groves. New in the assortment is the 1st of Harvest line, consisting of two oils of the olive variety Picual and Arbequino. These strictly limited oils testify to the highest quality and year-round hard work in the olive grove. When perfectly ripe, they are harvested on the first day of harvest, processed immediately and thus have a very special freshness and fruitiness. The labels are designed each year by a different artist.
The smoke olive oil from the XXI Century Oil Collection, which is often used in top gastronomy, is definitely an unusual product. For the elaborate production, wood chips made of birch, beech and oak are used for smoking. The wood gives the oil, in addition to an intense smoky taste, delicate aromas of fresh apples and almonds as well as soft notes of toffee and vanilla.
The olive oil Reserva Familiar, is the pride of the whole family. It is regularly highly prized. In 2005 it was the first Spanish oil to be awarded the Coq d´ Or by the Guide des Gourmandes. The important Guia Restauradore guide has ranked the Reserva Familiar among the 100 best gourmet products in Spain. In the magazine Lo mejor de la Gastronomia it received 9.25 out of 10 points, and José Peñin's Guía Sibaritas gave it 94 out of 100 points, making it one of the best olive oils in the world.
The oils that are bottled as Reserva Familiar are always pure top quality oils. They are typical of the olive variety, they are an expression of the terroir, they are highly aromatic and of unsurpassable fineness. They transport spice, health and pleasure.
