Cheese D.O.P Mahón-Menorca
This hard-cheese made from Mahón with a protected designation of origin is made from pasteurized milk from the Mahonesa, Frisona and Pardon-Alpina cow on the Mediterranean island of Menorca, where the oldest cheese maker from Menorca is produced in a traditional way.
Although Menorca is a small island, this island is the second most famous cheese, next to the Manchego cheese.
The cheese Mahon has a cuboidal base with round edges.
The cheese was aged for at least 60 days in deep caves. The Mahon cheese has a bold, great taste that can never be called mild.
The yellow-orange bark conceals a mild, slightly salty and distinctly spicy interior.
Traditionally, the orange bark on the Mahon comes from butter, peppers and olive oil.
The intense, slightly salty, spicy taste becomes ever more intense by aging. This unique cheese has to be tasted by every cheese lover and an absolute necessity for the true connoisseur.
The ripening time is between 2 and 5 months.
You can serve this excellent cheese before or after meals, as aperitif or dessert, you can melt it to refine sandwiches and burgers. Serve the cheese with crackers or a crusty bread.
It fits perfectly to nuts or fresh fruits like grapes.
With a sweet sherry the personality and the characteristics of the cheese are strengthened.
